Calgon Carbon recently announced its first quarter results, and unsurprisingly, the company has continued to grow. This company, dedicated to activated carbon adsorption, has been growing at an extremely fast rate over the last few years, partly due to the new market for activated carbon filters, activated carbon air, activated carbon water and other related activated carbon products.
Some people believe that activated carbon products are likely to bring about a new age in various cleaning supplies and health food. Although scientists have not completely agreed on the findings and activated carbon studies have led to very different results (depending on who funded the research) most people believe that the activated carbon market is going to have some sort of renaissance in the next few years. The future surely looks bright for the activated carbon market, and Calgon Carbon has benefitted by being one of the top players in the market. Although its competition is going to be fierce, it is likely that Calgon Carbon will continue its dominance in the field, due to its quality and experience in the activated carbon markets. Yet, only the future will tell whether or not the activated carbon market will bloom to its full potential.

Carbon is used for many cleaning treatments whether they be for home or industry. Different sizes of carbon molecules are better than others for the different chores. The best size for activated carbon filter absorption in reference to activated carbon water treatment is the granulated size, although the other sizes are used depending on how large the water’s volume will be. A large pool or public drinking source may use a powder granulated carbon instead.
Using granular activated carbon is feasible due to the lower cost of producing the carbon that is used in activated carbon filters when compared to other possible water purification procedures. Most filters that can be purchased are embedded with granular activated carbon.
Activated carbon absorption is highly effective due to the numerous deep-set pores throughout the surface of each molecule, and due to its activation pulling the undesirable substances out of the contaminant solution. Something known as van der Waals forces are responsible for attracting the atoms involved to one another. This is a weak attractive force that occurs between non-polar molecules or atoms. The absorption rate eventually weakens and the carbons used, whether it is bulk activated carbon, activated carbon air, powder activated carbon or granular activated carbon will need to be replaced or replenished.
Activated carbon of any kind when used for treating water supplies can and does remove elements such as arsenic, chromium, mercury both organic and inorganic, benzene, endrin, lindate, methoxychlor, dichloroethane, trihalomethanes, toxaphene and others. Activated carbon water treatment also reduced foaming agents, color and odors from the treated water. The water being treated could be for drinking or it could be for cleaning water that has been used for the purpose of cleaning something else.
There are some items or contaminants that cannot be removed by activated carbon filtration. These items are sodium, nitrate, fluoride and a water’s hardness. To get the lead out the activated carbon water treatment needs further specialization worked into its filters or other water purification equipment.

Confirmed by reports, supported by various journalists, there are claims that water coming out of your tap has pharmaceutical drugs! Amazed? Read on. The water treated at recycle plants is not treated for the medical waste that goes with the water from your bathtub having various cosmetics and other harmful chemicals. These drugs are just passed on to the reservoirs and reach your drinking glass. Their amount is considerably small. Slowly and steadily their amount grows in your body and then they take the demonic form of a disease. Your reverse osmosis filter is incapable of filtering such drugs from water. Recycle plants find it hard to break them down. Only way out is to use activated carbon water. Extremely porous carbon known as activated carbon when used as a water filter is capable of filtering out a great number of chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs. Besides removing chlorine, a activated carbon filter will remove chlorine byproducts, organic compounds and several other impurities. With higher ratio of contamination removal, activated carbon water is most preferred choice for anyone. Cleanliness of activated water carbon from your house water filter based on this technique will depend upon the amount of carbon in the unit and the duration of contact of the water with the granular or powdered carbon present. From simple absorption to catalytic reduction, activated carbon filter uses the best of the water filtering techniques to provide you clean water.
